Pineapples can wear glasses..

Hey,

Today's card is very bright and fun.

I made it for a friend's 40th and it made me smile, as she is a bright, fun kinda girl.

I decided that I would be making her a Pineapple with Glasses card, no idea why, I just did.

I embossed the pineapple parts (Concord &9th dies) using a great basketweave folder that was a gift from JT, handily when I went to get the glasses die, there were already a bunch of them die-cut and ready to go - in bright green?!

I used a pineapple embossing folder to liven up the background, I love this folder, it is by Paper Source and was a sale bargain and is NBUS, so it means I can join in with Darnell's latest NBUS Challenge..

I recently got a set of Ken Oliver Color Burst watercolour powders..my first few tests were not that impressive, but they make great frames! I die-cut this one using MFT scalloped stitched rectangle frame dies - I love these dies.

Final touch was the sentiment,  I used a Dymo handheld embossing label maker (dirt cheap and handy). I thought the look that you get with these embossed tapes suited the off the wall feel of the card.

I hope my friend likes it, it made me smile a lot.

WOYWW 188 - 9th Jan 2013

Yay! I love WOYWW. Happy Wednesday everyone.

Once again I took my photo on a Tues night, as I have to leave too early in the morning to take the photo and get the post out.

Just incase you don't know what WOYWW is, it stands for What's on Your Workstation Wednesday and is the brainchild of the awesome Julia over at Stamping Ground.

So what is on my workstation...

A stack of Pink Petticoat papers that I have printed out to make some cards for my work colleague Katie - as a leaving gift from me. You can see the cards that I am making for her in various stages - one is finished, another is semi-assembled and there are a couple near the front where I am still playing with ideas. You can just see my new paper trimmer in the right hand corner - finally got round to getting this ordered, no more frayed edges for me! The massive pile of buttons is there because I like to tip them out and shift through them when working - it inspires me. I am working with the Papermania Big Blossoms right now, as I love them. Behind the card that is finished is a stack of ribbons and twine, some are new and some I got out to encourage me to use them. The little green box is a Dymo tape that I just bought for the machine Hubby 'found' in the loft before Christmas. JT's butterfly punch is there, as it's on loan so I can punch a batch of butterflies before I leave..Oh and there are 2 new tacky glues that I want to try - one is clear and the other is white and dries super fast (apparently) - obviously following the UHU  incident I am a little bit nervous about new glue.

I am looking forward to getting home tonight and making a few more of the cards that are on my desk. Katie mentioned that she is loving Spring colours right now, so all the papers are Spring oriented.

A heart shaped challenge

So JT pointed me in the direction of this weeks's Mojo Sketch (Mojo 272) as she thought it would be a great use of my Woodware Scalloped heart punch.

She was totally right! So yesterday, despite being full of cold and prepping for a house full of guests today, I made the card that is today's main photo.

I am really happy with it and will use it for one of my January birthday's.

It's a great use of the punch and some rather fussy papers I had kicking around and I got to use the spotty paper tape - always need a reason to use paper tape. I like the addition of the bow (gift from JT) and think it's a good match to the sketch. Here's a close-up..

I also managed to have a little play with some of the new toys I bought (naughty, naughty, but it is Christmas...one gift for you and 2 gifts for me...).

So one of the new toys is a set of Spellbinders dress dies and I used them to make a set of gorgeous cards, using Papermania London Line papers, ribbons and bows - the bows were a gift from JT. I like the ribbon waistband, I might have to try this with paper tape..

The best bit about these cards is the sentiment..I made it using my 'new' Dymo label printer. I mentioned to Hubby that I was planning on buying a Dymo with my Christmas vouchers and he casually mentioned that there was one in the loft already, with a load of tape...er..what?!

Joy! free tools that are already in the house, no need to wait for them to arrive.

I am looking forward to using this die in lots of different ways.

Merry Christmas (again)
